How the process works

With over 25 years of experience in technology consulting and scholarly publishing, DreamGate Press offers high quality book production services to authors at attractive, cost-effective rates.

Editorial services and proofreading are  available separately; we will gladly provide you with quotes based upon your specific needs for each individual project. An outside editor may be brought in to provide any major editing that may be necessary.

We quote all projects in advance, deliver each project on time, and guarantee complete customer satisfaction.

DreamGate Press serves individuals, companies and organizations across the United States. General trade, scholarly works, anthologies, and journals are welcome. We also accept materials with illustrations, photos, charts, tables and graphs, as well as children’s books.

Please e-mail us for further information or to receive a quote on your current and upcoming projects. Samples of our work in Adobe Acrobat format are available elsewhere on this website.

Initiate Project

  • Negotiate preliminary quote

  • Receive digital text files from client  (Word or WordPerfect files preferred, PC or Mac)

  • Receive photos, illustrations, tables, charts, graphs, etc.

  • Provide final quote and receive client authorization to begin project

  • Files which require no editing are moved immediately to the design/layout department.

  • Note: Manuscripts should be thoroughly edited before submisson.  Only minor editing can be performed, due to time constraints.

Copyediting

  • Perform standard copyedit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency of style and usage, and clarity of expression

  • Create a style list for the project and check for consistency

  • Update word processing files

  • Send edited manuscript proofs with changes indicated to client and/or author for approval, response to queries, and corrections, if required by project; if not required, proceed to layout

Design

  • Match client’s book design requested or create a new design that appears consistent with the book’s tone and matches the desired length

  • Submit book design and projected length to client via e-mail; receive approval or make alterations

  • We use Adobe InDesign, page layout and design software (the industry standard)

Layout and Proofreading

  • Lay out and format book pages, with page numbers and headers

  • Transmit page proofs to client and author for final corrections and approval

  • Provide client with hard copy or PDF proof of final project

  • Add table of contents and index

  • Client signs off on project after reviewing the index

  • Transmit work to printer in Adobe Acrobat format on CD, as a high-resolution, output-ready PDF file, with a set of final page proofs

  • Bill client

Archive

  • Provide client with a digital archive of all project files on CD

  • Maintain a separate digital archive of all project files at the DreamGate Press and Design office

  • the page size of the finished book

  • the target length of the finished book

  • the number of illustrations

  • for projects that need copyediting, the character count of the entire book, including spaces

  • The quickest way to receive a quote is to e-mail us with the basic information.

  • To generate a final, written quote, we need see your word processing files to check the condition of the files and the level of copyediting required. Upon your approval of the final quotation, we will proceed with production.

Timeline

  • Depending on their length and complexity, projects will generally take from 3-8 weeks for the layout and editing stages.  Regular communication between DGP (DreamGate Press) and client assures accuracy and timeliness.  Drafts are sent to client for corrections and approval, before being sent to print.

  • Copyright page, acknowledgements, preface, table of contents, and index (if necessary), are created.

  • Alternative cover designs are transmitted, modified and approved.

  • Interior (text) and cover files sent to printer for initial setup.

  • Proof returned to DGP and client for final approval.

  • Actual printing and shipping then occurs, which can take up to 10-14 days.
